Very different for us born in the early 60’s.

There was no war, no draft.

Then Carter did that registration thing.

It wasn’t much.

No card, no number. And no draft.

Not sure what it was for.

I think the draft was the best system as up until about 1966 the draftees had on average 13 years of education and we had no high school drop outs. Hell in VA you had to graduate from high school or stay there until age 21 if male. One friend of mine had a 21 year old brother in my high school class in 64. His father was a full colonel in the Air Force. By 1970 the regular Army units in Vietnam and stateside got hit with the druggies from the kids born in 1950-52. By 73-74 the 1954-56 crowd was on drugs big time. The Army was full of drugs and druggies in 73.Integration and forced busing apparently dumbed down the white students and a number dropped out. The NG was political in the 60’s.
