Insider notes: Qatar set for winter World Cup, [truncated]

Multiple sources say it's a done deal that World Cup 2022 will take place in November and December of 2022 in Qatar. A FIFA task force will meet in Doha next week and make that recommendation, and the FIFA Executive Committee is set to make the decision final at its meeting in Zurich next month.

What! No futbol in 140 degree temps? That’s crazy.

I want to see how this affects the EPL and other league schedules. How will that work?

Except for the EPL, all the other major leagues take a 4-6 week winter break. The World Cup takes right at four weeks to complete, with the semis and final spilling over into the fifth week. Even the EPL takes a couple of weeks off, and could start their season two weeks early and finish up a week later at the end.

I've been to that part of the world (the UAE) in November.Even then it gets into the 90’s and the sun is *relentless*.

As a soccer fan I've never understood why the US media doesn't cover the sport more closely.

Don't find the on-field action interesting? No problem, make a living out of covering the corruption!
