BRYAN CRANSTON: FROM METH COOK TO HITLER APOLOGIST
February 11, 2015
The magnificent new book Hollywood Traitors by Allan Ryskind, son of Hollywood royalty (Marx Brothers screenwriter Morrie Ryskind), has been published just in time for the release of "Trumbo," in which Bryan Cranston will portray Hitler apologist Dalton Trumbo as a hero.
I'm guessing the movie skips over Trumbo's aggressive efforts to prevent America from joining the fight against Hitler. To that end, Trumbo wrote two of the most ghastly anti-war films ever made, "Johnny Got His Gun," released as a novel in 1939, and "The Remarkable Andrew," published in 1941.
To place this in context for Hollywood half-brights, in 1938 Hitler invaded Austria and seized the Sudetenland -- sweeping through the rest of Czechoslovakia the following year. On Sept. 1, 1939, the Fuhrer invaded Poland, finally forcing France and England to go to war with Germany.

Yeah, loved seeing Mike again on screen. lol
Can’t wait to see how their relationship touches off. There’s definitely a long history there we haven’t seen.

Amazing contrast, from his goofy role in "Malcolm in the Middle." Yet both end up standing around in their underwear.

God Coulter is an idiot. He played the part of a drug dealer. Idiot.

If he were as good a cook as his character, would make more in a week than he did acting.

You guys making excuses for this as “just a role” don’t get it.
It’s a hagiography of a hardcore communist.
Actors at his level choose which roles they take and the implications of the production.

Like thousands of college students in the 70s, I was forced to read “Johnny Got His Gun.” I remember very little of it except that it read like a dull version of Upton Sinclair, and was so transparently propagandist that it became almost comic.

I know Cranston is most likely your typical progressive actor, but I wouldnt attack someone for a role they play.Exactly. Under Ann's logic, women should be wary of being with any man who played a rapist on TV (e.g., on Law & Order: SVU).

Wow, according to Ann this guy must have been Superman. He singlehandedly kept the United States of America out of World
War 2 until Dec 7, 1941. Historians of the period have been looking in the wrong place for the answers. They have wasted their time pouring over the archives of the President, State Department, War Department, Congress, etc looking for why we did not enter the war earlier. The answer was some novelist and screenwriter in Hollywood. What power he must of welded as he kept the entire government in his grasp. His power of hypnotizing kept the American people docile. It was Trumbo’s amazing power. Roosevelt, Schmosevelt, the hidden hand was in Hollywood. The truth I guess is just too hard to understand for Ann. That is the American people remembered the 100,000 dead we suffered in one year in 1918 for virtually nothing. Imagine that, 100,000 dead in one year, and the Kaiser did not kill 3,000 people in NYC. Today we throw in the towel over 7,000 in 14 years, and today's enemy did kill 3,000 in NYC. It is real easy after reading all the books written after the fact to criticize those making decisions at the time. People forget, we were not the all powerful superpower we are today at the time. Our military I believe was smaller than Romania's in 1939-41. I believe that the American people did the best they could with the limited information they had, we did not even have an intelligence agency.

Have you actually read any books? The American Left was enamored, in turns, with Italian Fascism, German Naziism and Stalin’s Russia. Sure, there isolationists on the Right, but they weren’t taking their neutrality stances on the orders of the freakin’ Comintern.

I was assigned the book “Johnny Got His Gun” in high school English. It was boring and dumb as all get out! JMHO
