John Facenda was the voice of the NFL; just as Keith Jackson was the voice of college football.
God Bless, Ed
I hope you enjoyed most of the 98 years. We certainly enjoyed your contributions to pro football.
I grew up on the 30 minute films, the “through frozen tundra, these mighty mighty merchants of Menace, ply their wares, on unsuspecting quarterbacks who happen to wander in there territory”. Etc, etc, . I LOVED THAT STUFF!
Darrel Royal of the University of Texas was someone that I had heard was the author of that quote. Then again, he had Earl Campbell.
Yes, that and the music. And all of those creative phrases.
Because most of it was stock music. I used to work on corporate videos back in that time, and we had stacks of 33 1/3 albums with the same kind of stock background music.
You paid for the albums, and you were supposed to pay an additional fee if you used a track. I doubt many did.
Most of it was really bad. But some of it was really good music.
The music was great. I can still remember it.
No problem I will gladly make an exit....
YOU sound like a real nice poster too...
Great video, with poetry and that terrific music, and I believe it ends with a picture of Pat Tillman?
I don’t think anyone is asking for sympathy. He won in life inmost every measure from what I can see. Yet, in his passing there will be sadness as he has loved ones who will miss him.
I read just last week with the hubbub over how the Super Bowl ended that the origin of that quote was Ohio State coach, Woody Hayes.
What a great legacy he leaves. RIP. Well done.
Gary Burbank’s old “All My Bengals” skits were, among other things, a loving spoof of NFL Films...
