Actually, the very first black NHL player, Willie O’Ree, played for the Boston Bruins in 1958. The Bruins also had Grahame Townshend and currently have goaltender Malcolm Subban, who was their backup tonight against the Islanders. There have been other blacks on the team but their names slip my mind right now.

The premise of this article, by the way, is preposterous.

The Hartford Whalers had I believe the second NHL player Ray New field. Good player....
