Although the JJ Abrams version of Star Trek is full of action and visually stunning at times, it basically betrays the whole idea. Where does it “seek out new life and new civilizations”? According to his own words, he wanted to make it more like Star Wars. One of the main reason there are Star Trek fans is because it’s not like Star Wars.

Good point and never thought about it that way.

Respectfully, I disagree. Star Trek predates Star Wars by 10 years. Most Star Trek fans became fans because it was the best Sci-Fi television show ever at the time, and for many years after. Star Wars was an entirely different phenomenon. It was more gritty and less sanitary than Star Trek, and harkened back to the Flash Gordon genre of Sci-Fi from the days of our parents.

I have always been a fan of Star Trek the Original Series, disappointed by all of the Next Generation spinoffs, and really enjoyed most of the first five movies. The newest Star Trek reboot is, in my opinion, much better than anything since the original series, which will never be equaled.

I loved Star Wars at the time it came out, and thought the first two sequels were pretty decent. I didn't care as much for the prequel trilogy, because that stupid Jar Jar Binks screwed it all up.

Still, as far as real excitement and best execution of acting and plot, the original Star Wars is the best of all Star Trek or Star Wars productions.
