This Instagram photo shows a man missing a humpback whale surface two feet away from him because he was glued to his phone.
The moment was caught during a whale watch in Redondo Beach, California, professional photographer Eric Smith told ABC News today.

the sad part is that he was visiting a whale lore site....
Guess his feeling is - Seen 1 humpback, you’ve seen ‘em all
This is what passes for news.
It could have said hitlary passes man on Obama phone.
The boater has probably seen that whale plenty of times already.
Maybe he’s looking up whale recipes.
I saw this yesterday. I’m starting to believe it was a set up.
He was texting with the whale. “Hey Mobe, why dontcha just cruise on by, I’m just sittin here doin nuthin.” LOL
Judging by the condition of his boat and the cut of his jib, i’d reckon he is out there a lot...and the whales prolly know him well. “ Hey buddy...wazz up!” “ We’ll play when these Burkenstalkers are outta here.”
Getting rid of the cellphone plan was one of the most liberating things I've ever done. I bought a pay-as-you-go TracFone which I charge up once a week and keep in the car except when I am traveling.
All of those "important" calls I was missing seem to find me at work, on the home landline or via e-mail.
We’ve owned a sailboat about 15 yrs now and the ocean wildlife still excites me but yeah, a lot of boaters don’t care and consider a lot of it as pests.
One of our neighbors at the marina had the whole bottom of his motoryacht taken out by a whale just outside the mouth of the harbor a few years ago.
Well, he didn’t see the whale, but the iphone probably did.
From the look of things in the pic...it is possible that this guy sees this sort of thing every dang day. Another one wouldn’t really be cause for much excitement.
Having personal contact with humps is a federal offense. Dude s waiting for the opportunity to swim among his friends without being arrested for harassment of protected wildlife. No witnesses.
Someone once posed the question; If a time machine transported a visitor from the 1940’ or 50’s to the present day, what would be the hardest thing to explain to them about man in 2015? It would be that we have this device, it fits in our pocket and contains all the worlds knowledge.... and we use it to look at pictures of cats and argue with people.
He’s probably one of those people that say “yeah, I can text safely when driving”.

KPOP ALERT!
“Call me Ishmael ...no, seriously, call me”.
