An Iowa farmer watched the floodwaters rise to his front porch. Finally, a man in a boat said, “Jump in, and I’ll take you to safety.”

The farmer crossed his arms and said stubbornly, “Oh no thanks, I put my trust in God.” The boat left, and eventually the water rose to the second story.

Another boat arrived: “Hurry, jump in. I’ll save you.”

The farmer again said, “Oh no thanks, I put my trust in God.”

That boat left, and the water continued rising, eventually inching over the roof. As the farmer stood on the roof, a helicopter lowered a ladder. The pilot yelled, “I’ll save you. Climb the ladder.”

The farmer yelled back, “Oh no thanks, I put my trust in God.”

The water continued to rise and finally the farmer drowned.

The farmer arrived in heaven, and God asked, “What are you doing here?”

“I put my trust in you, and you let me down.”

“What do you mean, let you down? I sent you two boats and a helicopter!”

Even if Val Kilmer was foolish enough to turn the boats away, I hope he will take the helicopter.
