Here is something I learned reading “The Christmas Stories of Anthony Trollope”:

You know the locution, “It is a thing,” as in, “I set the Defliberation Laser Transmogrifier speed to Sporkweasel.”

“Oh, is that a thing?”

Well, Anthony Trollope was using that very phrase back in the 1870s.

Guys like Sir Francis Bacon had some really incredible things to say, especially considering they had the extra burden of finding a way to say them in Latin.
