Here is something I learned reading “The Christmas Stories of Anthony Trollope”:
You know the locution, “It is a thing,” as in, “I set the Defliberation Laser Transmogrifier speed to Sporkweasel.”
“Oh, is that a thing?”
Well, Anthony Trollope was using that very phrase back in the 1870s.
