Some cars were made with wipers that sort of disappeared. They retracted well below sight.
I don’t know how well that might have protected the rubber, or whether anyone has studied the matter to see whether such cars worked better in the desert climate.
It’s just something that people start thinking about long after it’s too late to design away the problem.
I’ve seen those and I like them, but I also like my wipers: Anodized blue aluminum for a bit of bling on the front, since I got the license plate frame in the back with the sparkles on it...
And I have a solid blue sunshade!
