President Barack Obama defended his fiscal year 2016 budget proposal on Monday, saying it would be a "critical error" if his spending plans are not passed.
"America can't afford being short-sighted, and I'm not going to allow it," Obama said, adding that he challenged Republicans to propose better ideas for strengthening the country on a balanced budget.
The White House submitted the proposed $3.99 trillion budget earlier Monday, predicting a $474 billion deficit if passed.
Despite this deficit, Obama said his budget is "fully paid for through a combination of smart spending cuts and tax reforms."
"We can afford to make these investments while remaining fiscally responsible," the president said. "In fact ... we would be making a critical error if we avoided making these investments, we can't afford not to."
He argued that smart spending now will keep government deficits lower in the future.
The president's opposition, however, did not see the White House's proposal working out.
"Like the president's previous budgets, this plan never balancesever. It contains no solutions to address the drivers of our debt, and no plan to fix our entire tax code to help foster growth and create jobs," House Speaker John Boehner said in a statement. "Worse yet, President Obama would impose new taxes and more spending without a responsible plan to honestly address the big challenges facing our country."
Obama emphasized that this proposal is based on the principles of "middle-class economics" that he addressed in his State of the Union last month.

“I’m not going to allow it”.
FUBO
Jawohl, mein Fuhrer!!! Seig Heil!!!
The critical error happened when his mother slept with the Kenyan father.
Didn’t we spend a few years ago, about 880 BILLION dollars on “Roads, bridges, infrastructure,” - you know “shovel-ready projects?”
The only “critical error” was Obama being voted in.
Every time I hear this "tax = investment" BS, I almost puke.
Either that or the condom broke.
Maybe “Barrack” is Swahili for “broken condom”.
it’s a moot point, since the world ended and we all died two years ago when the sequester went into effect.
it serves us right for not heeding his warnings.
Um, yeah. We’ll get back to you...
What about Middle Class Warming? Or Climate Economics? Or The Top 1%’s Carbon Footprint? Or the Obesity of the Malnourished? Or Education to End wars? Or Investments in Spending? Or the Job Security of Chicago Democrats and Friends? All equally important matters.
Yep, labor unions in Democrat congressional districts fixed a few roads.
“Maybe Barrack is Swahili for broken condom.”
If it isn’t Barack, don’t fix it.
If these a-holes in DC hadnt LOOTED these funds (Highway Trust, Social Security, etc.) to BUY VOTES and ship billions of it to nations that hate us so they can repay the loans the international banksters advanced and we underwrote to protect their asses, etc.), there would be plenty of money in Malfunction Junction for all of the necessary and proper functions of government.
And if you dont know why money is in quotes, you dont understand the intent of the Founders expressed at Art.1, Sect.10 and Id urge you to get up to speed on it.
Just imagine what Tip O’Neill, or Sam Donaldson, or Norman Ornstein would have said if Ronald Reagan had sent over his budgets with the comment “It would be a critical error if we keep funding our government with debt tied around the necks of our grandchildren, and I’m not going to allow it.”
Comrade obama is trying to make the new Republican Congress as dirty as he is by recklessly spending taxpayer money. Recklessly spending taxpayer money in the service of barack hussein obama is no virtue.
