Synonyms: inevitable, unavoidable, irrevocable, unpreventable, unstoppable, inexorable.
Antonyms: certain, sure, fated.
Etymology: 1615-25; < Latin inēluctābilis, equivalent to in- in-3+ ēluctā (rī) to force a way out or over, surmount ( ē- e-1+ luctārī to wrestle) + -bilis -ble
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.

DH has the snow blower out. No on else in sight. Roads were plowed and are salted. A bit slushy, but drivable. I am sure off our hill things are normal.

Why indeed did he call a pass when victory was ineluctable? He sought to alter the inevitable and steal defeat from the jaws of victory that he might rue the day. His fate was irreversible, ineluctable.

We already had that snow over yesterday and this morning, but mostly yesterday. It was a good one.

JJ Watt is a humble guy - he thanked everyone down to the janitors and cooks saying all of them help the players every day to be able to do their jobs. Classy.
Another great one was Thomas Davis of the Panthers, who won the Walter Payton award - from a VERY poor background - he has a foundation helping students not just through give aways, but a program to lead them down a good path. In his acceptance speech he said something like, "come on guys, we are paid very well to do what we do, lets spread it around and help others"... He said it better, but that was the main idea.
