I was honestly stunned. Immediately, I turned to my wife and said, “That might be the worst play call in the history of football. Whoever decided on that play should be hung before midnight.”

I cannot put into words for the lay person, including my wife, how utterly incomprehensibly stupid it was. There is almost nothing to compare it to.

Hubby said to me, in the most plaintive tone: why, J. WHY did he just do that?

And hubby is not a huge fan.

There was something really disheartening about it.

I COMPLETELY agree. If you know football, you realize that this was probably the worst play call in a game that mattered...in HISTORY. It was DUMB on so many levels.

1) You give it to Lynch in this situation. PERIOD. Anything else is being too-cute by half...and out thinking yourself.

2) If by some IDIOTIC reason you want to throw it...you PLAY ACTION because everyone and their momma is expecting a run. You don't line up in a way that shows you are going to pass...

3) If by some IDIOTIC reason you want to throw it on the 1 yard line...YOU DO NOT THROW A SLANT! You do not throw it because in this situation EVERYONE is expecting a run up the middle...thus EVERYONE is stacked in the box. You don't throw a slant because its for SURE to be in traffic.

Carrol can keep telling himself that it was a good call...but he's the only one saying it...and I think deep down even HE has to really believe it was stupid and he out-thunk himself.

No. Handoff fro Pisarcik to Czonka with 20 seconds left is still worse. A QB kneel was sufficient. It just wasn't in the Super Bowl.

The fumble.

Yeah, you call a slant play on the 1 yard line, you are begging to be fired...

Sure there is.

Just call it the "Pelosi Play".

I am not a fan of professional football but I did play the game in high school and college, so I know how the game is played. Or so I thought until last evening.

I didn't tune into the game yesterday until there was less than a minute left on the clock. But I saw the two plays that decided the game. First, that spectacular catch by the Seahawks receiver while on his back with the ball bouncing about on his body and then with the foresight to get up and go out of bounds to stop the clock. That was a world class catch and one that would allow the Seahawks to pull the win out of the bag at the last moment from the one yard line.

Then comes the next play, which was inexplicable. The Seahawks are a running team. One or two rushing attempts and they are world champions. Besides, it takes a pretty determined and lucky defense to stop the rush from just one yard out with the offense having four cracks at it. I was flabbergasted when they threw on first down. What in the world were they thinking? They lost the championship on that one badly called play. The coach, the offensive coordinator or the quarterback, whoever decided that the pass was the play under those circumstances should hang their head in disgrace. Even a high school third-stringer would not have called a pass from the one yard line when the run was the winning call.

Sports is always an unpredictable endeavor, buy in this case, a losing endeavor for the Seahawks.

“”I cannot put into words for the lay person, including my wife, how utterly incomprehensibly stupid it was. There is almost nothing to compare it to.””

We have someone in DC making decisions like that every day.

Oh! You’re talking about football?
