M aster spy James Bond, one of pop cultures most iconic figures, is now available for dangerous assignments from Canadian writers, thanks to a copyright quirk that allows the writing and publication in Canada of original material based on Bond creator Ian Flemings work. As of Jan. 1, the original writings of Fleming, a former British naval intelligence agent who published 12 novels and nine stories featuring 007 between 1952 and 1966, have entered the public domain. Thats because Canadas view of copyright is that it extends for 50 years after the death of a writer.

The only restriction is that the book can be sold only in Canada.
e-books are everywhere
true, but if a seller sells the e-book outside of Canada the seller would be liable to the Fleming estate.
I’ve tried on-line to buy some e-books from England and was denied because of the Region indicated by my ISP. “Copyright Restrictions” was the reason given.

James Bond in Canada.
From my very limited recollection so this is hardly a claim to completeness. The only mention in the books I recall is in The Spy Who Loved Me. Bond had just finished some assignment in Canada and was driving through upstate New York where the novel takes place. The female was also apparently Canadian.
In the movies a few mentions of Canada but never any visit to it in any of the plots. The spectacular ski jump that opens The Spy Who Loved Me was filmed in the Canadian Arctic.
Canada Ping!
Which is kind of odd given that Ian Fleming went to spy school at Camp X in Canada.
