What was that sauce our soldiers encountered in Vietnam during the war? I think it was called "Nucnam" or something like that and it was prepared a year in advance by burying fish heads in a crock and digging it up when it was splendidly ripe.

I understand one's breath odor lasted about a year with that stuff too.

During one memorable lunch break, a co-worker brought out a container of kimchi that, when opened, drove the rest of us outdoors; it was as if someone had sprayed the contents of a septic tank into the room.

The guy - a vietnam vet - was nonplussed over our flight to fresh air, saying that the smell of kimchi "wasn't near as bad" as the aroma of nuc mom. Go figure. All I know is that had it been -40 outside at the time, I'd have chosen the cold.
