More than 70 victims are recovering from their injuries after a massive explosion destroyed most of a maternity hospital in Mexico City Thursday.
At least one adult and two babies were killed, and several more victims were left in critical condition due to the disaster caused by a powerful gas explosion.
The blast collapsed about three-fourths of the hospital, and firefighters and emergency crews raced through rubble as nurses and moms carried crying infants from the wreckage.
Operation Blessing was on the scene of the tragedy within moments to offer aid. An Operation Blessing worker lives in the neighborhood, and felt the powerful blast in his home.
He helped to organize a mobile kitchen effort with the Operation Blessing Mexico team, feeding thousands of meals to rescue workers, doctors and other first responders at the site.
Well, when you have a steady diet of frijoles ....
Haha, wounded/dead woman and children and a bean joke. </sarcasm>
Well those "wounded" won't be moving in next door and collecting free benefits for a while.
A powerful gas explosion shattered a maternity and childrens hospital on the western edge of Mexico City on Thursday, killing at least two people and injuring dozens, officials said.
A leak in the hose of a tanker truck delivering propane gas to the kitchen area of the hospital caused the explosion, officials said, destroying more than two-thirds of the building and sending a column of smoke billowing over the area. Hundreds of firefighters, police and volunteers scrambled to find survivors trapped under debris of the state-run hospital after the 7:15 a.m. blast.
Workers had noticed a leak in the hose connecting the tanker to the hospital, and immediately notified firemen, Mexico City Mayor Miguel Mancera said. The explosion occurred before the leak could be contained, as firefighters evacuated people from the hospital, he said....
In 2013, 27 people were killed and dozens injured after a tanker truck carrying liquefied petroleum gas lost control and crashed on a federal highway north of the capital.
In the latest disaster, Adrián Rubalcava, head of the Cuajimalpa borough where the hospital is located, said two deaths were confirmed, one woman and one minor.
Mr. Mancera said 66 were injured, 22 of them seriously, including 17 minors, according to a list posted by local authorities near the explosion site. Seven injured babies are in serious condition, according to Armando Ahued, Health Secretary of Mexico Citys government. Officials said they believed there werent any more people trapped under the rubble....
One report said propane leaking from a truck.
I hate being around fuel or chemical trucks on the highway. I will never forget when a propane truck pulled out in front of me a few years back.
Glad I had good brakes. From 45 mph to 0 FAST!
