I expect to get flamed by the Palin fan club, but this is one of the best summaries I've seen of why she should not be taken seriously as a candidate. It has nothing to do with her policies - it has do with how she conducts herself. I agree entirely that she was not treated fairly by the media in 2008, but she has done nothing but play into the image they've created for her ever since. Furthermore, quitting her term as Governor halfway through is a major red flag, and eliminates the credibility of the "executive experience" argument.

Not treated well?

Hmmmm

On December 12, 2008 Sarah Palin’s church was set on fire around its entire perimeter— with women and children inside.

The temperature was 20 below zero has fire fighters worked to control the fire. It destroyed the church— fortunately the women and children were not injured.

This incident has been ignored and had it happened to anyone nearer to the political left— it would be denounced as the Rwandan style political hate crime that it was.

It is essentially still okay in American politics to do this to anyone oriented toward social conservatism.

Palin actually effectively deconstructed the Republican establishment of Alaska in her quest to become and rule as governor in Alaska. That is why she was phenomenally popular in Alaska among Democrats prior to the escalation to VP in summer 2008.

When she gave her electrifying convention speech in August 2008 and the moribund pathetic campaign of McCain seemed doomed to destroy the elite notion of electing a liberal black democrat, the politics of personal destruction went hyperbolic.

Palin’s VP debate with Biden was one of the most watched presidential debates in 50 years of televised debates—drawing more than 70 million voters. Only the Reagan debate surpassed it. Her appearance on SNL that fall was and remains the most watched espisode in the shows history— 17 million viewers.

Palin mocked the President by suggesting that we could drill baby drill our way to lower gas prices and economic strength. The President categorically rejected this argument as foolish and ignorant— in much the same tone that Cooke writes this piece.

Question: Who was correct on that important proposition of US energy policy?

Honestly, this is thoroughly ridiculous. Palin has done more both rhetorically and politically than all of her detractors combined. Its not close.

I personally prefer Cruz over Palin but would be delighted if they teamed up. But the criticisms of her and the hyperbolic demands that she essentially become non-existent are outrageous.

Dislike Palin but stop demanding that she exterminated. It is not unreasonable to characterize Cooke and others as engaging a war on women. It is a call for violence against Palin.

This is not over dramatic victim posing. This is real stuff.

The failure to stand up to this is the essential problem of practical American politics. We are ruled by a join Republican and Democratic elite who will ridicule any of us who dare watch American sniper, oppose gay marriage, or defend the propositions of American exceptionalism.

Cooke— you be forever quiet. Be quiet until you can respect advocates enough to disagree without demanding silence.

If you cannot do that, you do not need to write more political columns.

You’re in good company with the Morning Joke and the National Review. Sarah may be damaged by the press but to say she should have what after 2008? Ignored all the daily beatings since? The clowns that keep counting her out are the ones who suffer ignominious pasquinade. She is still a King Maker, her endorsements still fair better than the average RINO.

Sarah might be planning a surprise by being ditzy now in the heats and turning dead serious as voters start paying more attention. If she doesn’t then I’ll give up on her.

Actually, your excerpts make no point whatever rather than the imagination of the writer.

Today has been a huge frenzy over Palin.

It has been hysterical and more like a witch hunt scapegoating than anything I can remember.

Her speech was fine. It’s was not incoherent or disjointed.

It was perhaps a bit rushed or awkward.

But the hysteria and frenzy is not merited at all.

The National Review is an elitist, snobby magazine that doesn’t really like anyone who is not from the Northeast. People from other areas of the country just don’t stand a chance with them, and Republicans from the Northeast cannot get elected. Sigh!
I have seem many, many articles attacking Sarah’s speech, but I don’t understand why she is being singled out. This has happened again, and again, and again. Sarah gives a speech some people don’t like, so she shouldn’t be president. Hillary let people die. She also treats the little guy and gal as if they were dirt. But she’s a Democrat, so it’s okay.

The following is an excerpt from a 10/22/14 “piece” that the PALIN DESPISER Charles Cooke penned:

“As should now be clear to all who follow my work, I do not like Sarah Palin. I never have. I didn’t like her when she was chosen as John McCain’s vice-presidential nominee, I didn’t like her when she became an ersatz television star and part-time political rabble-rouser, and I don’t like her now, in the waning days of her fame. Her speech to the National Rifle Association in 2013 was a rambling, self-parodic disaster, all sentiment and no substance; and her offering to the following year’s convention was somehow even worse — an indulgent, alienating piece of ostensibly impromptu performance art, composed of precisely the sort of us-vs.-them gang signals and unsubstantiated indignation that serve only to leave neutral observers with the impression that conservatism has nothing to offer them....”

And here’s a link to THAT article:

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/390938/palin-pi-ata-charles-c-w-cooke

Since that 10/22/14 piece, Mr. Cooke’s envy and hatred of Sarah Palin has exponentially increased and his anti-Palin JIHAD continues.

I’M DISAPPOINTED EVERYTIME I SEE A FReeper JOIN IN AN ANTI-PALIN OR AN ANTI-TED CRUZ JIHAD. It’s sad to say but I’m frequently disappointed.

IMHO Charles C. W. Cooke couldn’t fill Sarah Palin’s hi-heels, although I’m sure he has tried repeatedly.

Yesiree. That's a doozy.

Finest insult I ever saw hurled.

There is absolutely nothing that Sarah Palin could ever do or say that would change the media perception of her. They despise her for what she believes.

Some of the Freepers on here who think she is “unelectable” because of her not finishing her governorship - give me a break. Most of the leftwing jokers on the dem side are absolute morons, yet because the media props them up - no problem.

I don’t care who on the conservative side winds up in the primaries - the media and the GOPe will excoriate them - as well as several Freepers who, no matter what conservative rises to the top - somehow they will NEVER be quite good enough for their vote.

Sarah? I would vote for her in a heart beat. Do I think she has a shot? I honestly do not know because of all the damage done to her by the drive-by media, SNL, late night comics. For many people, the perception has become the reality. But, the very idea that she has done herself harm since the the 2008 election? No way! The mainstream media has kept up their character assassination on her non-stop. There is NOTHING she could ever do or say to change the media from promoting the lie they have created.

Could she overcome that? Well, the media also despised Reagan too and he overcame it. So, maybe she could too.

My friends who were present told me that Sarah Palin was much better received by those in the hall than it would seem from the posts on this thread.

Thought you might like to know that. :-)
