My son used to live there. We visited several times. It’s sort of an island of gentrification in the middle of some sketchy neighborhoods. Lots of musicians. Some really amazing homes were built out there around Jamaica Pond. Beautiful architectural features throughout the district. I don’t think that there is a lot of gang activity there.
Welll .. the part that I hung out at, anyway ... Station 13 is where you fall down the steps before going to court the next day ... stuff like that
I should be careful with my comments ... they go back to '67 or '68 .. something like that.
This isn’t part of Jamica proper, is it. It must be a puss pocket in Boston, right?
Jamaica Plain is a neighborhood inside Boston though I am not familiar with the area.
Thanks. I shoulda read the thread just a little farther and I wouldn’t have needed to ask that question. Sorry ‘bout that.
Jamaica Plain has always been a diverse economic neighborhood. Wealthy living in mansions around Jamaica Pond, middle class on Centre street, poor in the projects on Mission Hill. Parker street is in the projects behind Wentworth Institute. This area borders Roxbury and has always had crime problems. Jamaica Plain is mostly gentrified, the middle class a and working class are gone. The only holdouts are the projects.
