An 80-year-old Orlando woman, who is no stranger to activism, said she's become the first woman in central Florida to be ordained as a Catholic priest.

Rita Lucey's ordination ceremony was not sanctioned by the Vatican, but nothing was going to stop her from her lifelong dream of becoming a priest in her own Catholic faith.

"I don't know that I don't have words to describe that, I really don't. That was joyous," Lucey said.

The great grandmother joins a movement of more than 200 women across the world becoming priests. But she said taking a stand comes with a penalty: automatic excommunication from the Catholic Church.

Right, people like this are only interested in the controversy they can stir up. It doesn’t matter that there are countless denominations that would be happy to make her a priest, reverend, minister, or what have you. The fact that there is even one that doesn’t allow it means she can’t rest until she “sends a message”.

I, for one, take the Bible seriously when it says women shouldn’t perform certain functions in the church. It’s not for me to question God’s logic or try to second guess Him. I’m just a simple human, so I have to assume he has good reasons, whether we understand them or not. That is what is missing from people like this woman: proper perspective, and the humility that follows from it.

Well if you keep dressing up as a big fudge sickle with your ass hanging out in the air, you’ll fit right into san Fransicko Indeed you should be quite popular there. Ha! It’s a strange place. Suggest keep your hotel room door locked at night. Have heard rumors that every guy dressed up as a priest there ain’t celibate either. -— Happiness.

Rita Lucey’s ordination ceremony was not sanctioned by the Vatican = not ordained, in spite of what the headline says

Been a long time since it was a normal place (believe it or not, it was once a GOP stronghold for quite some time). Physically beautiful, but the people and politics are straight out of Sodom & Gomorrah. Everything is backwards and upside down, what’s wrong is right and what’s right is wrong.

Is this “first female priest in the Catholic Church” an annual event? Actually I think I remember two of them last year.

popes are listened to insofar as,
1. they command respect by the quality of their preaching or teaching (just like any priest or pastor or rabbi)
and
2. some people only listen and follow what the pope or their priest or minister or rabbi teaches... if they find it convenient or easy or perhaps if there’s a wayward preacher then maybe even enabling of the parishioner’s sins

Popes may attract very large crowds in the streets, but this does not automatically translate to people doing as the popes teache in their sermons or talks

He just recited the presidential oath, does that make him President? “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Popes are the Vicar of Christ...or from your post maybe not after all.

And if he isn’t the Vicar then why was it a big deal for all the cardinals to vow ‘obedience’ to Pope Francis? ...which means that they, in essence, are living for that person from that time on and acknowledging that the Popes will is the most important thing in their life.
