Back in the day Fisher Body led and owned that day when it came to styling. The fit and finish was the best of the American industry and the lacquer paints were nice.

I sold my 65 Mustang GT for $525 in 72. I traded my 67 drop top Firebird in on a 72 Pinto in 74. Sigh!

Some really beautiful cars of the era,but as far as I could tell, they completely overlooked any example of one of the best looking for that time......Studebaker.

I hate to even think about what we sold our ‘57 Chevy Bel Air hardtop for back in the 80’s. We had fully restored it and it was perfect. But where to drive it without worrying every minute, and afraid to leave it unattended. Needed the room in the garage, so it got dispatched off to a rich kid for not nearly what it was worth. sigh...

Now that’s something that is totally missing in any car today, just look at the upholstered interior door panel on that ‘56 Chevy, perfectly matched to the exterior paint. Now even luxury car interiors are either black, beige or gray with the occasional red or saddle leather. Nothing else, from anybody.

Was watching some car auction shows and got to thinking that cruising back in the Detroit steel days, you would have been laughed of the roads if you even suggested that all of the cars put together you could see on the strip would be worth millions someday. You would have been called nuts if you even joked that a couple would be over 1 mil each by themselves.

“Well, at least my Brother still has his 32 Five Window Deuce Coupe buried in his Garage.”

way back I had a 32 roadster that held the SCTA lakes record and a 40 coupe for a street racer.

Today I have a 36 chevy 3 window coupe that is my daily driver.

The old lady next-door had a 57 Bel-Air. I was off to college, but whenever I came back home I would ask about buying the car, but she was never ready.

One summer I came back and asked her. “Oh - I’m sorry. I sold it to a nice Christian man.” I bet he offered her $500 to take that “old clunker” off her hands. (Had 20,000 miles on it, garaged, perfect - all original).

In hindsight it was probably for the best. I wouldn’t have taken care of it the way it should have been, and would be regretting it to this day.

Pics pretty much destroys “Robot Chicken’s” idea that the trunk of Speed Racer’s Mach 5 was full of dead hookers. I always liked that theory.
