One ticket is $20? What happened to $1/ticket?

In the convenience store in my area, the ATM is located right next to the lottery vending machine. Looking at the prices, they are from 5$ to 25$ and I see people feeeeeeing in their cash.
I avoid that said store on Wednesday’s because trying to get a cup of coffee or a pre-pay on gas will take 20 minutes. Reason? The lottery registers(plural) are running full tilt with a line. My little 20 buck purchase of gas is child’s play.

They're still around, but the prizes are lower. The $5, $10, and $20 tickets have better odds and pay much more. I prefer the $2 and $3 tickets myself at times.
