Generating small amounts of electricity cheaply (and quietly) is a really hard thing to do. So hard in fact, and so beneficial, if it could have be done economically it would have been done by now.

Cheap electricity is a large scale thing. It just is.

On the Mountain Men show and also one of those alaska shows they generate small amounts of electricity from streams. They funnel it through pipes and use the water to power a generator. Of course this requires a fast moving source of water but its an option.
