Moms Demand Action Founder: We Win by Bypassing Congress

Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America founder Shannon Watts said that more gun control is needed and the path to securing it includes bypassing Congress.

Watts suggested the pro-Second Amendment landslide in the midterm elections is not really a hindrance to her group’s goals. She also stated that just as no one gave up on immigration–even through it faced a tough road in Congress–no one should give up on gun control, either.

Obama secured amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants by bypassing Congress and handling the issue on his own.

According to Salon, Watts also drew parallels with “gay marriage,” saying the methods gay marriage supporters used to circumvent Congress are methods the gun control movement can use to win. She said, “If you look at how the acceptance of gay marriage came to be in this country, it was just like this; this is pretty much the playbook.” That playbook includes “bypass[ing] Congress,” pressuring corporations, and going “straight to the state legislatures.”

And when the state legislatures rebuff Moms Demand Action, Watts made clear that her group will try to bypass them, as well, via ballot initiatives like Washington state’s I-594.

This piece of garbage Shannon Watts compares “immigration”....actually illegal immigration ...to her Nazi gun grabbing schemes?

If this loser ever gets run over by an illegal alien...and a lot of innocent people have... the needle on my “give a damn” meter will not budge!

IMO, those who mock them here are in a state of denial. Using the same tactics used in Washington, they will win - again and again.

Reasoned arguments will not work. All the majority of the voters hear, and believe, is the "gunshow loophole" and "it will make you safer" lies. "How the Hell can you be against checking if a gun buyer is a nutter or a criminal?" they will ask, and turn a deaf ear to any further argument against it. Even when apprised of the backdoor registration angle, most who are not gun owners don't give a crap about it.

I've been pounding this drum ever since I-594 went through - all of us have got to badger GOA, NRA and the whole alphabetical list of pro-gun organizations to pressure our legislators to pass a law allowing non-FFL citizens access to NICS to perform our own background checks without the 4473 connection. If that is done, and we promote that kind of background check, it will cut the antis off at the knees.

Defensive arguments, after-the-fact lawsuits, or counter initiatives that do not include some kind of BC are doomed to failure for the reasons mentioned above.

Weeks ago I wrote the GOA, the NRA, and the major gun orgs in the targeted states - Nevada, Oregon and Arizona proposing this.

To date I have heard only from the folks in AZ and NV vowing to fight this initiative tactic tooth and nail - but nothing about our own version of a BC. It is my firm belief that if we don't, the 4473-type of BC will spread rapidly and the antis' wet dream of a national gun registration will become a reality - soon followed by piecemeal confiscations as done in New York.

Shannon, like her dream lover Obola, is playing a live-aqction role-playing game pretending to be Hugo Chavez.
