Damn, it is nasty out-I decided to drive the 8 miles to the general store because I was out of coffee and yogurt for breakfast-as soon as I came to the first of the several steep hills and creek bridges on this one-lane sort-of-paved road I switched to 4WD-there was ice on the bridge-so I drove all the way to the store and all the way back in 4WD in the partly freezing drizzle and mist.
It was not this bad when I went to check that jobsite this morning, and it was just as cold as it now, but the drizzle wasn’t sticking to bridges and hills-and this is only the second time I have felt the need to use the 4WD in the 4Runner, but I’m really glad to have it when it is needed...
Second time ever?
That’s the nice thing about modern all wheel drive systems — they have automatic modes of operation. You usually can engage them if you want, but they will engage if needed without intervention.
Of course, they won’t go very far in true off-road situations. Or tow very much weight.
It’s nice here now. Tomorrow morning the rain comes, possible sleet, etc. when it starts. By game time tomorrow 50 degrees, rain and 25 mph gusts.
I stayed home from mass as it was icy outside. DH went, but I didn’t feel safe.
