We had to put our best friend to sleep yesterday after a loosing battle with Feline Renal Failure
No cat lives 17 years without care and love from someone. I’m sorry for your loss but rejoice that someone loved a cat so much they took care of it for 17 years. You were lucky to have the cat for that long and the cat was lucky to have a partner that reciprocated. There is sorrow and there is no reason to look back as something was done very well and right.
We had our cat of 16 years die of renal failure. Our vet suggested a “dialysis” of sorts by putting fluid by IV under his skin...my wife is an RN and I was paramedic. We will NEVER do this again..far too painful for pet and owners. You just need to prepare...16 years is about an average life. Our three cats are getting on in age and we know that sooner or later we will have to make that painful decision. Just love them and take care of them until the end.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Your kitty was lucky and obviously had a very good life! One of my cats is the same age, and I know we won’t have her too much longer. All of my cats had to be moved outside due to my medical situation (they have their own safe-from-coyotes compound, with lots of warm hidey holes), and I miss having them in the house very much. Prayers for you and your kitty and I know another one is out there somewhere who would love you and your home.
My deepest sympathies and condolences on your loss. I still miss my Fatboy, he also passed from renal failure. It’s been 6 years now and time has helped soothe the loss, but I still miss him everyday.
I’ve heard that you never pick a cat, they pick you, there’s no doubt he loved you every bit as much as you loved him and it sounds as if he had a wonderful life unlike so many others in the world.
Take care
Been there and done that and it is so hard to do. Ours was the sweetest little Ragdoll with the bluest eyes ever. She showed up on our porch one day and stayed with us for 15 years. She was my wife's companion during those years I was working nights. Been about 8 years and it still pains a little to think of her.
We have two other cats now--a black female tabby and a crazy orange male tabby--who are like family. They're both now about 7 years old. I'm not one to equate pets with humans,, but I do believe that their innocent souls are capable of love and that some part of them will live on in heaven. You'll see your friend again.
I had a vet that would come to my home for Foster Cat.
Foster Cat was supposed to be at my house for a while. Her parents never came back from California to pick her up. She and I finally got used to each other and actually grew to have a strong relationship.
Foster Cat did NOT WANT TO GO TO THE VET. So I had the Traveling Vet come to her. That was until Foster Cat bit Traveling Vet and sent her to the hospital. Vet would never come back.
I loved Foster Cat.
I have Backyard Cat now. Funny feral cat. She wants to come to me, gets close, realizes she is close and hisses. So funny. She has been coming here every day for over a year. Very noisy. Probably part Siamese. Fortunately the Friends of Feral Felines, bless them, have neutered her. I know this because her left ear is clipped.
It is so sad that you lost your dear pet and best friend, Buddy.
It is so hard to see them go. Look for him at the Rainbow
Bridge. He will be waiting for you there. Prayers for solace.
Our favorite cat, my Rocket died at 17 of chronic renal failure
(CRF) as well. He was a good boy, and we are looking forward
to seeing him again at the Rainbow Bridge.
FReeper Salamander prolonged his life by three years when she
recommended that we give him Real Water to drink, and his
kidneys very nearly recovered completely, but they eventually
did continue to deteriorate and he passed away.
Now that we have two younger female cats, we have had them
drinking Real Water all their lives with us, and we hope to have
them both for a very long time.
I am so sorry for your loss, but remember Kitty will be waiting for you when you get to Heaven, God loves His animals.
My condolences to you. I put one down last January at 19, and now her twin sister is worrying me a bit. Just remember all the happiness they gave you and it will get better in time.

I’d like to go through a shelter but the last time I tried the ASPCA control freaks wanted me to fill out 2 pages of paperwork of personal information. They asked for everything but my inseam. I went instead to my vet and asked if any of his patients have recently littered. I walked away with one very amusing tuxedo kitty.

I have an indoor one with no claws and one wiry orange tabby that goes in and out constantly and stays in at night. It would go nuts if it did not get to go out.
Your Buddy looked like my Tigger.
I once had another orange tabby that would fetch a toy mouse
for as many times as I would throw it, he would run and tackle it bring it right back and drop it right back into my hand, even when we went for drives in my truck.
I’m sorry Robe...I’m so sorry...
I pray for your loss Robe....these things just tear me apart...
So sorry! Our Sadie just turned 15 in December. Other than some arthritis and a small heart murmur she is OK. Best cat we have ever had and we raised her from a kitten. Prayers for comfort for you!
What a beautiful guy!
So sorry but he had a good run. My vet said that most animals die of renal failure because of toxins from lack of teeth cleaning. My 11 year old dog needs to get his teeth cleaned right now, I need to get that done.
Sorry the hear this. Hurts. Prayers
So sorry....know that your kitty will be waiting for you....pets do go to Heaven!
