A friend on Facebook wrote that she and her husband were taking a walk the night after Christmas Day. They passed a neighbor out in his yard and wished him a merry Christmas. The neighbor paused and said, Oh, you mean for next year? The husband told him that no, the wish was for this year since Christmas lasts twelve days and were only on day two. He said, Oh, yeah, I guess youre right.
The day after Christmas my husband and I were walking in our neighborhood retail area. I thought we might get our children some Christmas treats at the candy shop. It was closed.

I remember that, in Bethesda, Md. Definitely in the ‘fifties. I was three or four years old. I think they did it on the grounds of the public grade school.
Sounds like you live in a backward area. Here, Valentines stuff started hitting the shelves 2-4 weeks before Christmas, filling the space where the cheesier Christmas crap had sold out.
Today, I received emailed photos from my indignant niece in England, showing me Easter candy already in the stores. Easter is just over 4 MONTHS away!
I am truly behind the times. :-/
