From what I have read the idea behind cannibalism is that the eater gains some spirit or soul from the eaten. It’s actually some primitive religious rite. Most of the time they eat the neighboring tribe who they have vanquished but I guess exotic white meat will do in a pinch.
True- there was also a halfbreed Chickamauga Cherokee leader who it’s been said ate some Virginians - in “the manner of the Iroquois” in order to strike fear into the settlers. His fellow Cherokee were revolted at first but he persuaded the ones in his group to join in. “Aw, come on, they’re 100% organic and GMO-free.”
I’ve read that they may “befriend” a potential meal for months..treating him with kindness even offering a woman from their tribe. The idea is to get the victim so relaxed that he begins to accept the idea that he has become a part of the tribe. Then one night, the sound of drums and chanting and the tribe comes crashing into where the victim is sleeping. The idea is to kill the victim at the height of his surprise and terror as this amps up the magic transferred as the victim is consumed by the tribe!
