Not a Nixon fan. Wage and price freeze et al He was not a conservative (well he was compared to the current marxist in chief). An elitist by any standard though

So much could have been done. Even Skylab was put together from spare Saturn V stages. Quick and dirty. I love it. A habitat for the moon might have been built launched and landed remotely for future astronauts to utilize with supplies coming in priodically. Much could have been done utilizing the Saturn V as a platform.

The truck you spoke of was interesting but a waste of resources.

If you ever visit the Manned Spacecraft Center, renamed for Johnson, be sure to visit Rocket Park. No cost, just a few early rockets, Nike, Atlas, Little Joe,etc. The real attraction is the restored and enclosed Saturn V vehicle. It’s horizontal on transport trailers. The whole thing from the first stage to the LES (launch escape system)is 364 feet of incredible might. The fueled vehicle on the launch pad weighed 6,000,000 pounds. Stage 1 had 7,500,000 pounds of thrust.

Stage 1 had 5,000,000 pounds of kerosene and LOX. It burned all that in two and half minutes. Each of the five rocket engines burned 1,000,000 pounds of fuel in 150 seconds, nearly 7000 pounds per second. Helluva roman candle.

Yeah, I worked there at that time. Great memories.
