I remember watching this when it was less than 20 years old. :^/
Amazing how the old specials just hold up despite all of the attempts to bash on the past by the PC crowd. I dont think there has been any Christmas special in the past 15 years that has obtained the status of the ones made from the 60s-80s.
Of course there is only one other thing on TV that is as classic as these shows:

My kids, grandkids and I still watch the big 5 every year: Charlie Brown Christmas, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph, Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (not the Jim Carrey horrible crapper). I grew up watching these every year.
Non animated: Santa Clause 1 and 2, Christmas Story, Jingle All the Way, Miracle of 34th street.
I was always struck by the careful PC editing that was done.
When Burl Ives tells the story at the time when both Donner and Mrs. Donner would join the search, Donner tells her “No, this is man’s work”.
And the PC crowd threw their heads back and howled.
This was the most classic intro in the history of TV, when having a show in Color was still a big deal.

I mentioned on another thread that when they did he digitalization a few years ago, I guess the fact that Yukon C. was packing a firearm missed the airbrush.
You know what happens when liberals get a hold of classics.
