In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

calumny \KAL-um-nee\ noun
1. a misrepresentation intended to harm another's reputation
2. the act of uttering false charges or misrepresentations maliciously calculated to harm another's reputation

Example sentences:
The notion that the mayor knew about the problem before the newspaper broke the story is nothing but calumny.

"Some say that showing respect for your opponent after heaping disrespect upon him … and having disrespect heaped upon you civilizes our politics. In truth, however, it degrades our politics. It says that anything goes—calumny and character assassination are all just part of the rough and tumble of campaigning.…"
— Eric Zorn, Chicago Tribune, November 7, 2014

Etymology:
Calumny made an appearance in these famous words from Shakespeare's Hamlet: "If thou dost marry, I'll give thee this plague for thy dowry: be thou chaste as ice, as pure as snow, thou shalt not escape calumny. Get thee to a nunnery, go." The word had been in the English language for a while, though, before Hamlet uttered it. It first entered English in the 15th century and comes from the Middle French word calomnie of the same meaning. Calomnie, in turn, derives from the Latin word calumnia, (meaning "false accusation," "false claim," or "trickery"), which itself traces to the Latin verb calvi, meaning "to deceive."

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Democrats construct their sentences by throwing dice, each side of which is printed with some calumny against Republicans in general and conservatives in particular.

Feinstein, on torture, chose calumny
She lied to you and she lied to me

To locate Osama
To deny it is nothing but blasphemy

What is wrong with her, to release information more than 10 years old that can only hurt our people? I do not understand the mindset. A+ for you!

The truth is an absolute defense against libel calumny.

In the old-school Chinese restaurants, we used to order one from calumny and two from column b.

Our trip to Syracuse airport was a disaster yesterday. Accidents on I81N caused some delays and they would not board them when they arrived. The plane was doing final boarding and they said you are too late because you have one checked bag...oh, well, so sad. We checked them into the hotel on the airport grounds and then spent the day at the Destiny mall. I81S was closed with accidents, so we couldn’t head home then, anyway.

We found an adventure at 5 Wits place. Never heard of them before but we had fun. Then we got lunch and browsed a bit. Left them late afternoon and headed home. The road had just reopened and it was crowded with tractor trailers. What a day.

So the democrats claimnumbly that the repubbies lie, cheat, steal, and coverup .... And Obola’s press corpse repeats their words, equally nimbly.

It was like an Indiana Jones adventure into a tomb. You had to work together to find the answer to puzzles to get through a series of rooms to solve the adventure. We, also, went into a castle to find a dragon and banish it. Again, a series of puzzle like things to solve and get through a series of rooms. You need at least four to effectively solve the puzzles. There are clues. Here.
