I wonder if factmonster is right. It seems that Clarence Thomas would be Baptist, Methodist or another denomination having been raised in the south at his age. I confess ignorance on this whole topic.

He’s Catholic, and even attended seminary as a youth.

Educated in Catholic schools, and if I remember correctly then converted. He went to seminary for some time, left and became Episcopalian after some racist comments by fellow-seminarians following the MLK assassination, reverted sometime after joining the court, quite possibly due to the influence of the Scalias (Scalia has a son who is a priest).

Thomas was the only black person at his high school in Savannah, where he was an honor student.[11] He was raised Roman Catholic. He considered entering the priesthood at the age of 16, and became the first black student to attend St. John Vianney’s Minor Seminary (Savannah) on the Isle of Hope.[10]
