Where did I use the words “common core” or say anything about 8 hours (seriously?) of homework? The Koreans are already eating our lunch and having been stationed there, it doesn’t surprise me. They were a third-world country when I was there and now they are the technology and cultural leaders of the world. It’s not an accident.

Graduated in '70 - had homework throughout. There were a few nights when the teachers didn't get together and there was too much homework to get done in 3-4 hours. Most nights was 1-2 hours for those who paid attention in class and were willing to try to ensure they had really grasped the material. Time is not always relative - if one doesn't pay attention, then sits and stares, while whining, instead of actually trying to do the homework, a short assignment can take hours. Homework prepares one for the increased responsibility of college where the student assumes greater responsibility for gathering and digesting data. Many are opposed to the things that actually prepare a child for life in the real world - take Ferguson for instance...
