The appeals court in New York state said caged chimpanzee Tommy could not be recognised as a "legal person" as it "cannot bear any legal duties".

The Nonhuman Rights Project had argued that chimps who had such similar characteristics to the humans deserved basic rights, including freedom.

In this absurd case, form does not equal ability nor does it equal capability. To argue as such matches the Biblical "Choke on a gnat yet swallow a camel." The danger is that all it takes is a single court / judge to make a favorable ruling and it sets the grounds for precedence even if it is immediately struck down by a higher court.

However, a very similar case to this was prognosticated by the late, great Science Fiction author, R.A.Heinlein, in his short story, "Jerry was a Man" (1947), albeit the protagonist in that case was genetically enhanced and able to speak.

The “The Nonhuman Rights Project” argues for “human rights” for nonhumans?

I have long thought that someone should set up in public, with cameras running, with ultrasound going, and start aborting puppies. See how many minutes it takes for the cops to show up.

The far left disgusts me. They want to deny Americans their God-given human rights, including the self-defense right to keep and bear arms, the right to the free exercise of religion, and the right to free association, but they want to give animals human rights. Liberals are both stupid and evil.

They should strip the “human rights” from the members of that organization for even suggesting such a thing.

Even more critical is that some left wing group would be given the right to cast the animals’ votes. NBC on election night. “This election was a nailbiter until the animal votes came in. At 11:04 p.m., the beetles cast ten trillion votes for Barack Obama. The ground sloths cast 175,000 votes for Barack Obama. The snail darters . . .”

One of the first reasonable court decisions in a long time.

So does that mean he can't be called for jury duty?

Does that mean he isn't qualified to run for political office?

Does that mean he can't get married even in a progressive state?

Some straight lines are just too tempting..............

Legal duties, huh? Well there`re plenty of welfare deadbeats who don`t fulfill their legal duties to support their own mooching @sses.
