If you'd stop thinking of yourself as "black people" perhaps I could stop being forced to constantly think of myself as "white people," and we could start being people.

A white kid was silly enough to believe it, and has spent the bulk of his life trying to live it--and the people who won't let him are the descendants of the same people who told him 47 years ago that they wanted him to think of them that way.
Mr. Luckerson, you're my fellow citizen, and I am your fellow citizen. I love you with the love of my country, and the love of my God. But you think of yourself as a black man. I think of you, and of myself, as a man.
