Another recent example was "Glamour" magazine naming Chelsea Clinton the "Mother of the Year." These supposedly sophisticated people come across as credulous hicks falling for the latest snake oil salesman who passes through town. Actually, hicks would show a lot more sense than today's sophisticates.
