Rice had been suspended since Sept. 8 following the public disclosure of a videotape that showed Rice striking his then-fianceé in an Atlantic City elevator. Rice had been suspended for two games prior to the release of the videotape, but in the wake of public outrage — Rice knocked Janay Palmer unconscious with a punch — the NFL suspended Rice indefinitely.

Bullshiite. The man should be allowed to earn a living. It the county wants to file criminal charges, that’s a separate issue. He has already paid more than he ever wanted for his behavior.
He got off very lightly for what he did.
This ultimately is a criminal matter... Unless the guy is in jail convicted of a crime....the NFL should let him play....
The two game suspension was apporopiate for his actions in breaking a part of his contract...

Yes, he should be allowed to make a living. Did he complete his degree when he had the opportunity? If so, there’s his ticket to a job. Did he waste that opportunity? Well, I hear you can make a very fine living in the North Dakota oil field. Not NFL money but better than a lot of people are doing.
Prosecutorial discretion decided not to prosecute.
Pete Rose is banned form baseball for life for betting on the game. He has never been tried or convicted for that. The Black Sox were acquitted and banned for life the very next day.
Alex Rodriguez was banned for a year for PEDs.
Many football players have been banned without criminal charges.
What we know Rice did is reprehensible. He may have a right to make a living, but not in an industry that brings with it public adulation.

How many men get fired for doing what he did? Why expect a higher standard of behavior for a football player than...let’s say, a congressman?

This decision was a no-brainer. There was no other possible outcome based on the undisputed facts.
Rice should have been prosecuted, but that is not an NFL decision. Furthermore, the NFL had the tapes from inside the elevator and attempted to cover-up that fact.
Ray Rice will now sue the Ravens and the NFL for his 2014 contract and other damages; and he will win.
The NFL was more interested in protecting its image than in punishing Ray Rice. Ray Lewis was involved in the cover-up of a murder and got just a $250,000 from the NFL.

Agreed. The NFL overreached on this, in too big a hurry to please the mediots. If his wife wants to file charges, so be it. If the jurisdiction wants to file charges without a complaint from the victim, so be it. The NFL is not the judicial system, even though Roger Goodell seems to think the NFL trumps the legal system.
