“Power User” is a term coined by Microsoft, back during the days of Windows NT and Windows 2000.
It refers to a group of network users who, while they aren’t system administrators, had elevated privileges on the network by virtue of their duty post or job description.
They could do things like password changes and routine junk, but didn’t have all the power of the sys-admins.
