I know this is NO time to think of laws or rule of law BUT isn’t there some kind of statute against the banning of Interstate Transit?
Think it goes back to RR strikes and it became a Felony to block traffic.
People forget, the idea of Interstates is NOT so one has a quick ride to Grandmas house, it was basically designed and built for Military then Truck traffic being used for Interstate Commerce.
Ike’s ‘dream’ came about after he had a hell of a time taking a convoy across country and what should have taken days took weeks due to poor highway design, unpaved roads etc. The feeling it would work came from how he saw the ‘Autobon’ working.
My very sparse knowledge of legal matters has me remembering that denying somebody free movement on a public ROW is a serious offense. It is called the public RIGHT of way for a reason. Without it, we would be trapped in a medieval world where we paid fees to private land owners to move around. So its pretty important. Add to that the military aspect - the National Guard may need to use this interstate to get in and out of Ferguson, and its even more serious. And the same bunch of lunatics who were convinced Christy caused a traffic jam...and slowed down ambulances...will champion this move, despite the obvious risk of having a riot related trauma patient die at a roadblock. So....
