FALSANI: "What is sin?" OBAMA: "Being out of alignment with my values." FALSANI: "What happens if you have sin in your life?" OBAMA: "I think it's the same thing as the question about heaven. In the same way that if I'm true to myself and my faith that that is its own reward; when I'm not true to it, it's its own punishment."

I believe that to be true among believers.

Proverbs 16
5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

When a believer hits rock bottom you can bet he has been up there at the top among the proud.
