A toy grenade that Curt Schillings son mistakenly packed in his carry-on luggage caused a security scare at Logan Airport this morning.
The former Red Sox Ace posted on his Facebook page: Want a good one to start your day? We are at Logan getting ready to fly. Heading through security when one of my sons looks at me in panic....DAD!.....OMG I THINK I LEFT MY FAKE GRENADE IN MY BAG!!! Schilling posted to his Facebook page at about 7 a.m. 3 seconds later the belt stops, every tsa person is on their walkie talkies. Then, they shoo everyone in line behind us away...15 minutes later the bomb squad arrives.
Massachusetts Port Authority spokeswoman Jennifer Mehigan also confirmed the bomb scare.
This morning there was an incident with Curt Schilling and a toy grenade, she said. We take all incidents like this seriously because the safety and security of the people who use the airport as well as our employees is our top priority.
The incident did not result in an arrest, Mehigan said.
Shortly after the scare, Schilling took to Twitter to thank the authorities for being so understanding, saying Police, TSA could not have been cooler once they realized what was happening.
is it a realistic fake grenade or a little squeaky toy?
I bet the kid never does it again.
I had a friend growing up in the 70s...he is still my friend...but he and his parents were going on a trip, and as a 10-12 year old (I don’t recall our exact age at the time) he joked going through the airport that there was a bomb in the luggage.
Even then, it was a very big deal...his parents were pulled out, they were searched....I don’t know if they missed their plane or not, but my buddy was severely, um, chastised for being such a wise-ass.
An aquatentence of mine used to work for the Red Sox and will day positive things about almost all the players he worked with on the Sox and would never say anything negative about a player.
As for Schilling, he has no comment except for, “Don’t listen to the rumors about how much of an A-hole Schilling as they are not true. He is ten, if not a hundred times worse than any thing you will read.”
I'm acquainted with a guy in RI who's received threats against his family in connection with the missing $75 million I referred to.He's told me stories indicating that the Schillings are not at *all* nice people.
In with a Schilling; chaos all around.
I was wondering why they were flying into a small town in Utah until I remembered that there is another Logan Airport.
