A French left-wing MEP has hit out at the creators of video game Assassin's Creed over their portrayal of Maximilien de Robespierre. A slight artistic liberty from the creators sees the character of Robespierre presented as a psychopathic mass-murderer, which has enraged the French left, Jean-Luc Melenchon claims the depiction of Robespierre, considered by many to have been the architect of the French Revolution, in the latest installation of the game is 'propaganda against the people'.

Surely they aren’t suggesting that Robespierre was anything other than a villain.
Guess that is the definition of left-right. The left celebrates psychopathic mass murderers like Robspierre, Pol Pot, and Che Guevarra, and the right does not
Suddenly I just became more interested in the New Assassins Creed Game.

One of the sweetest historical ironies I savor is that Robespierre’s Terror claimed him — and Georges Danton — as some of its final victims.
"Every time I play a first person shooter, I can barely concentrate on the action. My mind is on the ramifications of international politics and how gun control would have prevented most of this. And then I mourn, because my character is not earning a Living Wage." -- Lazmataz
Um, why do people think Robespierre was a “good guy”? He ran around beheading people for little or no reason. Lavoisier’s death alone is enough reason to label Robespierre a bloody tyrant.
I've been playing it for about a week and not really noticing any overt political overtones. You do end up killing establishment goons constantly.
If you run it on a PC you need to have a pretty beefy computer. My i5-3570k, 8gb ram, barely makes the minimum spec. and my R9-270X GPU is less than minimum but I play it fine.
Mr.Peabody and Sherman did a pretty good take on Robespierre as well.
Assassin’s Creed is hardly “right-wing”
In that universe here is how the 2000 election happened:
“Bush was used as a puppet by Abstergo Industries, assigned to become President to allow the Templars to control the United States.[1] During the 2000 presidential election, his rival nominee, Al Gore, was backed by the Assassins, who were also vying for political control of the United States. When “the Mentor”, the leader of the Assassins, was killed by the Templar sleeper agent Daniel Cross on 6 November 2000, the Assassins were thrown into disarray and were unable to influence the election. Without the Assassins’ interference, the Templars were able to steer the election in their desired direction and Bush was assigned as President of the United States”
Robespierre was a psychopathic mass murderer
He also tried to eliminate religion, totally change language, clothes, and every other custom they could think of.
He was a technocrat atheist who wanted to radically reform and transform society. He essentially was an anarchist that had to blow everything up to replace it with his grand vision. Speed was a necessity, so it was a lot easier to behead road blocks than to work on a reasonable compromise.
Sound familiar? Reminds me of the current modern day progressives. No wonder they are unhappy with this depiction. Just like him they will discover that might does not make right and eventually you are taken out by your own arrogance.
he was no anarchist, his rules were stricter than the ones he was abolishing
An anarchist in the sense that he wanted a clean slate to work from and saw no value in the preexisting system. You are correct that how he implemented his vision was methodical and systematic and had nothing in common with anarchy.
Take solace in the fact that your character makes up for that by playing with way cooler toys than you do in real life...
But, aside from that, what’s not to love? ;-)
Socialists are fascists. They loath individualism. Their end game is to force everyone to their concept of morality. All the while they reward themselves handsomely for the use of their wisdom. When they begin the killing, individuals need to come together to kill them faster. Otherwise, you will be killed.
