Now that you mention it, every one of the large companies I audited on the east coast were located in rural and semi rural areas. Including AMP, which I believe is still in eastern PA.
They’re even in suburbs fairly close to cities; that gets them at least off the municipal tax rolls. Around the Meadowlands towns have built office parks, within sight of NY and Jersey City; Parsippany NJ out on Route 80 also has them. People that used to commute from suburbs out on Route 80 to the eastern cities now drive ten minutes to their jobs (and don’t deal with being badgered by homeless people and panhandlers).
