Word For The Day, Wednesday, November 12, 2014-- scrutate
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
scrutate [SKRU-tayt]
verb, transitive
To investigate.
Origin: From Latin scrutari (to examine). Earliest documented use: 1882.
USAGE:
"Philosophers have too often thought that they can learn more about human nature by scrutating the murky depths of substance and faculties than by interpreting the obvious evidence." John Lachs; The Relevance of Philosophy to Life; Vanderbilt University Press; 1995.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
My favorite Pittsburgh pair: tile/towel
I say those both the same.
No big deal. Just an mp3 pronouncing the word.
(Hint—it’s 2 syllables.)
You don’t know what Virginia ham is?
It’s a type of lunchmeat. A sweet, smoked ham. Good stuff.
A++++
Best post of the day. Tate wasn’t the only one who got screwed, though. :)
I love ham - buy lots of diff types - virginia ham is a bit salty -
Use that paper towel to wipe the tile.
Well, is obama any good at basketball?
Enquiring minds want to know!
Not the stuff I buy.
Yes. How now brown tile.
I recall my SIL going to Williamsburg and maybe it was Virginia Ham that she bought there, but it was not remotely anything like we are used to from the grocery store or deli and it was really really salty and gross she said.
How would you describe virginia ham? Maybe I’m thinking of something else - but I love Tavern Ham (which is also called Bavarian Ham) and my favs are sweeter types, like a honey maple ham. I was thinking virginia ham wasn’t smokey but was a bit salty
I was buying tavern ham in PA (Boarshead brand) and still remember ordering it at a local grocery store and the woman just stared at me like I had made it up. lol Fortunately another store knew what it was and said it is sometimes called Bavarian ham, so I asked for that the next time back at the first store and she cut it right up for me.
I’ve heard of both.
have you seen the pic of kim kardashian’s bare behind which has gone viral? I think it looks HORRIFIC, how can that possibly be considered attractive, I think she looks like a freak show!
did you read the comments? Russian propaganda lol
I didn’t read them, but figured that it would not be remotely surprising under Obama to find that we had been outsmarted militarily!

I guess this is the original way to make it. Feed the pigs peanuts and peaches, then smoke them over apple and hickory.
Like I said, it is smoky and sweet.
