I’ve always thought it interesting that the beginning of the decline of the Republic appears around the time we went from depictions of an abstract of Liberty on coinage to depictions of leaders and personages.
And then we took a nosedive again when the coins were debased in 1965.
And speaking of awful coin designs, most of the 50 state quarters were designed by a committee and look like it.
That’s actually a profound thought.
