“claimed that my grandmother called her the n word.”
About 30 years ago, on a big, special night out to Benny Hana’s, a black bus boy leaned over and wispered in my ear threateningly, “I heard you call me a nigger.” I was absolutely traumatized. I barely remember the rest of the evening. At the time, I was working 12 hour night shifts in a world famous newborn ICU, taking care of primarily premature black infants. Many nights I didn’t get to eat or use the bathroom, sacrificing my health to save a baby born to baby momma addicted to crack. He will have his moment standing before God.
A “Christian” black nurse stood by with secret knowledge and let a NP and myself perform a very dangerous procedure on a newborn and make a medical mistake. I actual saw the smirk on her face. The infant could have died. The infant was black. I had a real awakening. I’d been raised next to an underground railroad town and brought up that everyone was equal. The irony they call us racist.
Wow, I know what you mean. It makes you want to move as far away from them as possible.
