Shy bladder sufferers want DirecTV to stop airing a television ad in which a painfully awkward actor Rob Lowe says he cant urinate in public.
The satellite TV company suggests its critics should be able to take a joke.
The ad is in poor taste and ridicules a serious problem, said Steve Soifer, CEO of the International Paruresis Association, which estimates that some 7 percent of Americans have some form of shy bladder syndrome.
We dont mind if people have a little fun with it, said Soifer, a social work professor at the University of Memphis. Its a situation that a lot of people dont understand. In this particular case, the portrayal is making it look ridiculous, that this guy is a loser for having a problem.
What if he didnt have a leg or an arm? he said. Are you going to make fun of them?

They should call it NOT WANTING THE OTHER GUY TO SEE YOUR PEEPEE SYNDROME.
I agree.....Rob Lowe the adult is pretty ok in my book.....younger and dumber Rob Lowe was pretty bad. These commercials although funny are creepy. What is weird is that Rob Lowe doesn’t even need the money (we really don’t know if their are any financial problems in his household which could be possible).
Mke that flair.
Is this from the Onion?
Do you realize that was way back in 1988 at the Democratic National Convention? Long time ago, and yes I think he has grown up and matured and a pretty good actor. I just recently watched ‘The Stand” again and was reminded at how good a job he did in that role.
Well privately they're pissed off.
As I recall this went to court and he was found not guilty.
Maybe you should submit that idea for a beer commercial; see what the reaction would be then.
That’s funny.
LOL!
"All we are saying... is give pee a chance!"
Remember friends, no man is an island. But when you pee, you're a nation!
I'm here all week.
I don’t like Painfully uncomfortable Rob Lowe.
Super hairy Rob Lowe is pretty funny with his arm hair curtains.
These Rob Lowe ads for DirecTV are a hoot.
The only problem: I like the alter-ego Lowes as much as the regular Rob Lowe, so after watching the ads, I feel no need to switch from cable to satellite.
He’s pretty conservative these days along with others from that time period. Not FR conservative but conservative by Hollywood standards.
Shy Bladder Group Pissed Off Over Rob Lowe Add.
More likely, "Shy Bladder Group tries to get Pissed Off Over Rob Lowe Ad but can't."
The problem with situations like this in our culture nowadays, is as a direct result of the left's political correctness agenda, which they have gradually forced upon the society, where no one can be made fun of and everyone is a victim and should act offended. My response? Geez! Lighten up and get a life. I yearn for the days again when you could tell a joke and everyone would laugh, including the people that were the butt of the jokes. It used to be called humor. Now, the liberals, call it hate and bigotry. So sad.
"Nothing to see here folks. Let's move along now. If it's that important, you can read about it in the newspaper tomorrow."
I’m waiting for racist accusations when a headline reads:
“Lynch Obama’s DOJ nominee”
Or take a diuretic.
You’ll pee anywhere, all the time.
He’s not hurting for work. He’s really a pretty funny guy.
He plays supper health conscious and annoyingly friendly Chris Trager on Parks and Recreation.
