The intersection between Liberterian and Repbulican ideology is much greater than that between Liberterians and Democrats. Virginia Liberterians just shot themselves in their collective foot. Idiots!

We need to cede Fairfax County to DC. If the folks there want to live in a socialist paradise, fine, go become part of DC.

Assuming all positions are weighted equally, then you are right. However, many Libertarians (and libertarians) tend to prioritize those issues in which libertarianism is closer to liberalism than conservatism. As a result, depending on the candidates involved, libertarians often draw more from disaffected liberals than disaffected conservatives.
The libertarian candidate probably made no difference and, if he did, it quite possibly made the race closer than it otherwise would be. With the growth of Fairfax county (and Loudoun/PW), Virginia is a bluish state. That is the real story here. Not a probably irrelevant 3rd party candidate.

Sounds like it’s time for the VA legislature to play ‘election fraud nullification’.

Just imagine if the GOP would actually get behind it’s Virginia candidates and invest some money in defeating Democrat opponents. First, Ken Cuccinelli had a late surge and narrowly missed a major last minute upset over Terry “The Punk” McAuliffe in the Virginia’s governor’s race earlier this year. And now, Ed Gillespie falls just shy of knocking off the Democrat incumbent’s senate seat.
Virginia used to be a Republican stronghold. So why has the GOP all but practically abandoned the state in recent years???
To: wastoute
This isn’t Fairfax County that is the problem, it is Virginia Beach. We used to win it by 20 points, which offset Fairyfax. McCain lost Virginia Beach, Romney won it by less than 3%, Gillespie won it by 7%. It seems to be swinging back in the right direction, but we have to run up bigger margins here (add Chesapeake and Chesterfield to the list) to win the state.

Now that Virginia has photo ID, cheating is more difficult for the Dems which is why this race is so close. The Dems now must count on “malfunctioning” electronic voting machines to make it happen. The Scantron machine Fairfax County uses now gives the voter no confirmation that it registered the correct vote.

You know, if I were the Democrats, I'd start having fun with the cheating.
When I submitted votes, I'd make it so we won by one single vote, every time.
Just to send a real "In Yer Face, YEAH We Cheated, **** You," message.

Ed sure could have used those 50,000+ votes the Liberterian candidate siphoned off. Does the Libertarian Party lack the right to run a candidate? OF COURSE NOT!
Do individual citizens lack the right to vote for the Libertarian candidate? OF COURSE NOT!
If the Republican party wants some of those 50k votes, it bloody well has to EARN them.
To: Red Badger
That which is now called Arlington County was ceded By Virginia to the FedGov to form (with areas ceded by Maryland) the Federal District, as requested in the Constitution. FedGov gave Arlington back to Virginia.
To: wastoute
VA counties have an “absentee votes precinct” that usually is much larger than regular precincts because it encompasses absentee votes from the entire county. If one Fairfax County precinct indeed gave Warner a huge boost, it likely was the absentee votes precinct.
