Looking to move from Kansas to Colorado. I'll be paying for the move.
Looking for recommendations for a good moving company. Also any names to avoid and tips about avoiding trouble.
Thanks.
Just call one of those Democrats leaving DC... they will know :)
Atlas Moving is good, but I was shocked at how much it costs to move the contents of a house. A few thousand dollars.
Just my luck, when I call, they’ll tell me every moving truck in the country was sent to the DC area.
Ha!
I’d be happy with a few thousand dollars, I’ve read nightmare stories where they suddenly increase the price to tens of thousands of dollars mid move and hold your stuff hostage.
Hi. Hubby and I moved from nc to Ga for $1000.
We rented a truck- from Penske. We did our own packing and used people from movinghelp.com.
They are a company that uses hourly people and there up to hundreds of reviews for each company, which I read before choosing. We got 3 strong men on each end who treated our belongings as if they were their own. I think we paid $150-160 on each end and hubby tipped each one $20. Not sure if you are on a budget, but we were very satisfied and saved a lot of money.
Colorado huh...WEED! :-)
Thanks.
I’ll check them out.
I have had exceptional customer service from both ALLIED and MAYFLOWER.
Allied moved me from IL to CO and the same driver and his helpers packed me up and delivered. I tipped them a bottle of Jack Black.
Mayflower picked up an antique clock collection from my elderly father and brought it to me here in CO. NO BREAKAGE at all...some clocks from the 1860’s!!!

I sold my pick up so I am looking at one of those companies that drop off a shipping container at your house for you to pack yourself. Then they take it to your new place.
Leave the lawn chairs, held up my stuff for a week when I moved to California, had to sleep on the floor.
Tip. Don’t spend more to move stuff then the stuff is worth. Might be better off selling, donating or giving away and buying new once you get there.

Leaving a county and leaving a state racks up the graft
Doctor said it would cure my lumbago.
Bekins is family owned in Omaha.
When my husband moved her from CT, I think he used Global Van Lines, IIRC, which was fine, but a little pricey, considering he wasn’t moving a lot of furniture, etc.
Yep, we are have a moving auction next week.
We’ve already taken numerous truck loads to Good Will.
How it the world does one family collect so much stuff?
Learned a lesson early on in a move from CT to Ohio.
Get a few bids for a rate comparison ... then lock in, a little wiggle room for the carrier perhaps 5 or 10 percent, nothing more. If your carrier refuses to lock in to their bid find someone else. There are many stories out there about household good carriers holding homeowner belongings hostage if they don’t get the inflated price they demand after loading your stuff into their van.
I have used Suddath Relocation Services twice. Very professional. On time, no breakage, no surprises.
