The first car that was truly “MINE” was a 1956 Cadillac Series 62 Sedan.
Completely stock motor and running gear.
Except for a state-of-the-art “paint job” -
It was covered in a coat (literally) of acrylic “fur” that was marketed under the names “Velvetex” and Velvecoat.”
The tiny fibers that comprised the “fur” were given an electrostatic charge and sprayed onto an epoxy base. It had nap and texture and every gas station attendant who filled the tank invariably ended up “petting” the car.
It was beyond cool.
I remember that Velvetex stuff. One of the TV Batmobiles that was on the “World of Wheels” car show circuit back then was covered in it.
