Now that everyone’s High In Colorado, it’s not surprising.

Sounds like pilot error. Were he skilled, he coulda likely survived a controlled crash.

NTSB report mentions his unfamiliarity with the aircraft, the improper fuel selector, its placement in an awkward spot, and the improper fueling i.e. he estimated what he had onboard and was wrong.

He was a Democrat. Supported Jimmy Carter, and was critical of President Ronald Reagan. He also didn’t like the NRA.

I figured he was something like that but since I liked his music, I didn’t make any effort to find out.

As a gruesome side note.... His plane slid down the mountain into a lake and when they recovered his body....parts of it had been eaten by birds and fish....Heck of a way to die....
Nope.
Pacific Ocean near Pacific Grove, California. Nose first into the briny blue.

Bruce Jenner looking pretty young these days! I wonder what his secret is. I remember when he used to be on the cereal boxes (Wheaties?) during the 1970s. Can't remember what he exactly did but I think it had to do with a javelin. All I know is I was a kid eating cereal and his picture was usually on the back of the box.
Anyway, back to John Denver. You couldn't escape him in the 1970s either. Except he wasn't on cereal boxes but he was coming out of the car radio whenever my parents took to driving me around. Songs like "Sunshine On My Shoulder", "You Fill Up My Senses", "Country Roads" and of course "Rocky Mountain High". He had himself a ton of big hits.
He was also in that movie in which George Burns played God. I think Denver played some kind of hapless supermarket clerk and George Burns took apparent great joy in messing with his head.
Come 1980, you never heard much out of John Denver again. Except the plane crash. Apparently he was a bit of a drinker as well.

I have no idea what his politics were, probably liberal but he sure could sing.He was a typical hippie/new age/environmentalist wacko. One of his songs, Calypso, was a paean to the uber-new ager Jacques Cousteau.
But yes, his music was beautiful, and most of it (as I recall) was not political.
